Send Money to GCash from Saudi Arabia: Apps and Partners That Work

By the MoneyTransfer.ph team (Dominet BV). Updated · Facts checked · How we compare

The short answer

  • Yes, you can send riyals straight to a GCash wallet. GCash's official Saudi partner list (checked 29 Oct 2026) names Western Union, MoneyGram, Ria, SAB (Saudi Awwal Bank) and Skrill, plus the payment networks HomeSend, PeraHub, TerraPay and Thunes.
  • Many Saudi apps (STC Bank, Enjaz, barq) offer a wallet payout without being on GCash's list themselves, because they route through one of those partners. Check that GCash shows up in the app before you promise your family.
  • Your recipient needs a Fully Verified GCash account. A Basic account can only receive PHP 5,000 a month.
  • Fees we could confirm run from about 14 to 40 SAR per transfer depending on the channel, but the exchange rate matters more. Compare the pesos received.

Payday na, and the family at home is waiting on GCash. For most OFWs in the Kingdom, the hard part isn't sending the money. It's knowing which app actually lands it in the wallet, what it costs once VAT is added, and why a transfer that worked last month suddenly bounced. Here's what we could confirm from official pages on 29 Oct 2026.

SAR to PHP reference rate today

SAR to PHP reference rate (reference only)

1 SAR = 17.0628 PHP

Source: Frankfurter (blend of 26 central bank reference rates), rate date 29 Oct 2026. Checked .

No central bank in the source set publishes Saudi riyal to peso directly, so this is Frankfurter's own cross-rate calculation. It's a reference, not an official BSP rate and not what any exchange house will pay.

What SAR amounts equal in pesos at the reference rate, before any fee or margin
You sendAt the reference rate
500 SARPHP 8,531.40
1,000 SARPHP 17,062.80
3,000 SARPHP 51,188.40

This is a benchmark, not a quote. Remittance providers add a fee, a margin on the rate, or both, so your family receives less than this. How we use rates.

Paalala: Hindi kami nagpapadala ng pera. Ang rate at fee ay estimate lang, kasama ang source at oras. I-check ang final amount sa provider bago magbayad.

The riyal is pegged to the US dollar, so this rate follows USD to PHP almost exactly. It's a reference rate, not what your bank or wallet will pay. Use it as the yardstick when you compare quotes. More detail on our SAR to PHP today page.

Who can send from Saudi Arabia to GCash

GCash keeps an official list of remittance partners by sending country on its Help Center and asks customers to use only those partners. For Saudi Arabia, the list we read on 29 Oct 2026 has two kinds of names.

Brands you send with directly:

  • Western Union
  • MoneyGram
  • Ria (listed as both Ria and Ria Money)
  • Saudi Arabia British Bank, now called SAB (Saudi Awwal Bank)
  • Skrill

Payment networks that work behind other apps: HomeSend, PeraHub, TerraPay and Thunes. You won't download these. They're the plumbing that banks, wallets and exchange services plug into so a transfer can reach a GCash wallet.

That second group explains something that confuses a lot of kababayan. Your bank's app may offer "Philippines, wallet, GCash" even though the bank's name isn't on GCash's list. If the app routes the transfer through Western Union or one of these networks, it's still an official GCash channel. If GCash doesn't appear as a payout option at all, don't force it with a workaround. Pick bank deposit or cash pickup instead.

Saudi banks and wallets that offer a GCash or wallet payout

SAB (Saudi Awwal Bank)

SAB is the only Saudi bank on GCash's own partner list. Its international remittance page lists four ways to send: to an account, for cash pickup, to a wallet and to a Visa card. The Philippines is one of the countries listed for wallet transfers. SAB says fees start from 15 SAR and go up to 40 SAR, before VAT.

To send to a wallet, SAB's steps are: log in to SAB Mobile or SAB online, go to Money Transfer, add the beneficiary under "International transfer to Wallet", activate the beneficiary through SAB's channels, then send through the Transfer option and track it in the app. New beneficiaries need that activation step, so add your family member's GCash number a day before payday, not on payday itself.

Western Union (online and through Saudi partners)

Western Union's Saudi website advertises online transfers "to GCash wallets, bank accounts or for cash pickup in the Philippines". On 29 Oct 2026 the page showed a 0 transfer fee banner, with a note that Western Union also earns on the exchange rate, and elsewhere said online transfers start from a 15 SAR fee. Both can be true at different times or amounts, which is exactly why you check the final quote.

The same page says that if you're not already an Ersal customer, you need a government-issued ID to verify your profile at an Ersal location. Western Union is also the network behind several Saudi bank and wallet apps, so you may be using it without opening the Western Union app.

STC Bank (formerly stc pay)

STC Bank's international transfer page says you can receive in three ways: account deposit, cash pickup or wallet. Its fee table is headed "International transfer (Western Union)" and lists 15 SAR for the Philippines, with VAT not included. The page doesn't name GCash. In practice, choose the Philippines in the app, pick wallet as the receive method and check that GCash is offered for your recipient before you send.

Enjaz (Bank Albilad)

Bank Albilad's published fee schedule for Enjaz (fees include VAT) lists 14 SAR for an Enjaz Easy transfer through the Enjaz app, and 16.10 SAR up to 23 SAR for Western Union transfers through the app depending on the receiving country. Fees are higher at Enjaz centres and kiosks. Enjaz has promoted sending to GCash mobile wallets through the Enjaz app on its official social media pages. The fee schedule itself doesn't say which payout methods each service supports, so confirm GCash in the app.

barq

barq is run by Barraq Financial, which appears on the Saudi Central Bank's (SAMA) list of licensed payment companies (checked 29 Oct 2026). barq's international transfer page lists cash pickup, bank transfer and digital wallet as payout types. It doesn't name GCash on the page we could read, so check in the app. barq's remittance terms say transfer fees are not refunded if a transfer is cancelled, declined or reversed, which is one more reason to double-check the GCash number before you tap send.

Tahweel Al Rajhi, urpay and others

Al Rajhi Bank's Tahweel service and wallets like urpay send to the Philippines too, but we couldn't find an official page from either that confirms GCash payout, and neither is on GCash's partner list by name. Some may route a wallet transfer through a listed network. Open the app, choose the Philippines and see whether GCash appears. If it doesn't, send to your family's bank account instead and let them move it.

Fees we could confirm

All of these come from the provider's own page or fee schedule, read on 29 Oct 2026. Saudi Arabia charges 15% VAT, so check whether a fee is shown with or without it.

A low fee doesn't mean a cheap transfer. Every one of these services also sets its own exchange rate, and the gap between that rate and the reference rate above is usually where most of the cost sits.

How to compare: count the pesos, not the fee

Do this once with your usual app and once with an alternative, using the same amount and GCash as the payout:

  1. Note the SAR you'll actually pay, including the fee and any VAT.
  2. Note the PHP your recipient gets in GCash.
  3. Divide the pesos by the riyals. That's your effective rate.
  4. Compare it with today's reference rate. The smaller the gap, the better the deal.

Example with round numbers, not real quotes: App A charges a 0 SAR fee and your family gets 16,100 PHP for 1,000 SAR. App B charges 17.25 SAR (15 SAR plus VAT) and your family gets 16,400 PHP. App B's effective rate is about 16.12 PHP per riyal against App A's 16.10, so the app with the fee still leaves more in the wallet. It can just as easily go the other way, which is why you check both.

What your family needs on the GCash side

  • A Fully Verified GCash account. GCash's limits page (checked 29 Oct 2026) shows a Basic, non-verified profile can receive only PHP 5,000 a month and hold PHP 10,000. A Fully Verified profile can receive and hold up to PHP 1,000,000. GCash says these limits were updated effective 1 Oct 2026, and anyone can see their own limits in the app under Profile, then Profile Limits.
  • The right mobile number. The 11-digit number registered to GCash, starting with 09.
  • A matching name. GCash's help page on sending remittances says the receiver's name and number must match their GCash account. Saudi apps sometimes shorten long names, so enter it exactly as it appears in your family member's GCash profile.
  • Room under the monthly limit. GCash's incoming limit is a monthly total, and linked accounts share one limit. If someone else is also sending to the same wallet, the limit can fill up before the month ends.

If the money doesn't show up automatically, GCash says the recipient might need to claim it using a reference number: open GCash, tap Cash In, choose Global Banks and Partners, pick the remittance partner and follow the steps. With Western Union, that reference is the MTCN.

Step by step: sending riyals to GCash

  1. Ask your recipient to confirm their GCash is Fully Verified and send you the exact name on the profile.
  2. In your app, add a new beneficiary: country Philippines, payout method wallet or GCash.
  3. Enter the name and GCash number. Read the number back to them by voice call.
  4. If your bank needs a beneficiary activation step (SAB does), complete it now.
  5. Enter the amount and look at the PHP your family will receive, the fee and whether VAT is added.
  6. Confirm and keep the reference number until your family sees the money.
  7. For a first transfer with a new app, send a small amount first.

Timing: when the money arrives

Wallet transfers to GCash usually land within minutes once your payment goes through, but compliance checks can hold any transfer, especially a first one or an unusually large one. The Philippines is five hours ahead of Saudi Arabia, so a transfer you send after Isha prayer is already late at night at home. GCash credits run every day. Bank deposits are different: Philippine banks may not credit on PH weekends and holidays, and the Saudi weekend (Friday and Saturday) can affect bank-side processing on your end.

When GCash isn't the best payout

GCash is great for the monthly budget: bills, load, groceries and cash-out at a partner outlet. It's less good for large sums. Wallet limits, per-transfer caps set by each app and the chance of a rejected transfer all get in the way of tuition, a down payment or savings. For those, a bank deposit to BDO, BPI, Landbank or another Philippine bank is usually smoother. Our main Saudi Arabia to the Philippines page compares bank deposit and cash pickup options, and our send money to GCash from abroad page lists GCash partners for other countries if family members work elsewhere.

Problems we see most often

  • "Beneficiary not active." Some Saudi banks require you to activate a new international beneficiary before the first transfer. Do it before payday.
  • Transfer rejected or returned. Usually a name mismatch, a wrong number, an account that isn't Fully Verified or a wallet that hit its monthly limit. Contact the app you sent with and quote your reference number.
  • Blocked because of your iqama. Saudi banks and wallets check your identity against your iqama. If it has expired, international transfers are often blocked until it's renewed in Absher. Renew early.
  • GCash option missing. The app doesn't offer it for that route right now. Use bank deposit, not an unofficial agent.
  • Fee charged on a failed transfer. Some providers, barq for one, say fees aren't refunded on cancelled or declined transfers. Checking the details first is cheaper than sending twice.

Staying safe

Only send to GCash numbers you've confirmed by voice with someone you know. Scammers target OFWs with messages about an emergency at home, a "processing fee" for a job or a prize, or a new number "because my phone was stolen". Call your family on the number you already have before you send to a new one. And avoid informal padala agents in Saudi Arabia who take cash and promise to load GCash later. They aren't licensed, and if the money disappears you have no one to complain to.

Frequently asked questions

Can I send money from Saudi Arabia to GCash?

Yes. GCash's official partner list for Saudi Arabia names Western Union, MoneyGram, Ria, SAB (Saudi Awwal Bank) and Skrill, along with the networks HomeSend, PeraHub, TerraPay and Thunes. Saudi apps such as STC Bank, Enjaz and barq offer wallet payouts that may route through these partners. Check that GCash appears as a payout option in your app.

Can I send from STC Bank to GCash?

STC Bank lists wallet as one of three receive methods and charges 15 SAR plus VAT for the Philippines through its Western Union service, according to its own fee table. Its page doesn't name GCash, so choose the Philippines and wallet in the app and confirm GCash is offered for your recipient.

Is Al Rajhi or Enjaz on GCash's partner list?

Neither Al Rajhi Bank nor Bank Albilad (Enjaz) is on GCash's Saudi list by name as of 29 Oct 2026. Enjaz has promoted GCash transfers through its app on its official social media. If your app shows GCash as a payout, the transfer goes through an official channel. If it doesn't, send to a bank account.

How much can my family receive in GCash per month?

That depends on their GCash profile. GCash's limits page on 29 Oct 2026 showed PHP 5,000 a month for a Basic profile and up to PHP 1,000,000 for a Fully Verified one. The app you send with can also set its own cap per transfer.

Does my recipient pay a fee to receive in GCash?

Usually not. GCash generally doesn't charge the recipient to receive an international remittance through an official partner. Fees can apply later, for example when cashing out or moving money to a bank. Check the GCash app for current charges.

Why was my transfer to GCash returned?

The most common reasons are a name that doesn't match the GCash profile, a wrong number, an account that isn't Fully Verified, or a wallet that reached its monthly incoming limit. Your app usually returns the principal. Contact it with your reference number.
